Centrifuge decanter machines are equipped with a conical horizontal bowl, in which a helical screw turns at a slightly different speed to ensure the uninterrupted evacuation of the solid phase. The clarified liquid phase flows out, uninterrupted, through the counter-current of the solid phase.

 The differential speed, between the bowl and the scraping screw, is obtained by the used of a planetary gear. The centrifuge decanters are equipped with a device that allows the variation of the differential speed so that it can be adapted to the treated product.

The clarified liquid phase is evacuated through openings, whose radial position can vary in order to adjust the drying and clarification intervals.

 A washing pipe makes it possible to introduce liquid, and thus ensure the cleaning of the centrifuge.


It can be of interest to flocculate fine and densely packed solids inside the centrifuge, through the use of polyelectrolytes. This technique is used largely for the clarification of urban waste water.
 

The geometrical forces along with the angle of the conical bowl (generally a compromise is made for the angle, according to the product type: from a small angle to avoid remixture to a a large angle to increase the capacity) allow for the effective and continuous evacuation of the sediments inside the machine…

These centrifuge types make it possible to carry out the clarification, drying, classification and thickening of suspensions with a particle size greater than 2 µm (preferably greater than 5 µm) and with a solid volume concentration ranging from 1% to 40%.
